Neoprene - A Chemical With Endless Applications

Neoprene comes from the family of synthetic rubbers through the process of polymerization of Chloroprene which is why it is also called as Polychloroprene. Invented in 1930 and purchased by DuPont, Neoprene in the beginning marketed by DuPont under the name, DuPrene. Although it had fantastic chemical stability, along with maintaining elasticity at a wider temperature range, it was not a commercial success because of the bad odor that the manufacturing process left behind on the material. After seeing such results, the process for developing DuPrene was changed and it resulted in the betterment not only for the product, but also the manufacturing process because the new process halved the costs of production. DuPont then began selling the product to finished end product manufacturers and dropped the name DuPrene giving it a generic name Neoprene since DuPont no longer marketed finished-end products themselves. By the year 1939, Neoprene became a hit and generated large sums of revenue for the company.

Today Neoprene is used in a large variety of applications, from cases in the form of sleeves for laptops, to braces for knees, to electrical insulation and even in belt fans found in cars. Neoprene when foamed is also used as an insulation material in diver wetsuits as well as in packaging to reduce damage and insulate goods and equipment. Having great chemical stability, Neoprene has a wide variety of uses in industrial applications such as manufacturing of corrosion resistant coating, gaskets and hoses. Apart from that it is also used to isolate noise in soundproofing applications.

With its wide variety of uses, the industrial chemical Neoprene sure has a lot of demand today. Global Trust Enterprises, FZCO is an ISO-9001 certified general trading company in the Middle East that deals in the supply of Neoprene and other elastomers along with a whole range of industrial chemicals. Their mission is not only to be a trading organization, but to build relationships based on “Integrity with Performance” having a single minded goal to attain their business objectives.

Heat Exchangers, Their Types And Applications

A heat exchanger can be simply referred to a piece of equipment built to efficiently transfer heat from one medium to another. Heat exchangers are used in a wide variety of applications such as home heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, petrochemical plants, refineries as well as in natural gas processing. In many industrial processes a heat exchanger helps in using the wasted heat from one process to be utilized in another process which saves a lot of money while being efficient at the same time.

There are multiple types of heat exchangers available depending upon their applications in various parts of the industry.

1) Shell and Tube heat exchangers: To make it simple, this type of heat exchanger works with a series of tubes containing the fluid that must be either heated or cooled and these tubes run in a shell or a much larger tube containing another liquid that either heats up and warms the tubes or absorbs and cools the fluid running in the smaller tubes. Shell and Tube heat exchangers work better in high pressure and demanding environments.

2) Plate heat exchanger: These heat exchangers work with a line-up of multiple thin and closely placed plates which have a very large surface area and fluid flow passages for better heat dispersion. Plate heat exchangers are more practical compared to Shell and Tube ones in applications where there is a space restriction.

3) Adiabatic wheel heat exchanger: This type of a heat exchanger uses a separate material which can either be a solid or a liquid material to store the held heat which then moves to another side of the heat exchanger to be released.

4) Plate fin heat exchanger: Plate fin heat exchangers are usually made of aluminum alloy with varied designs such as cross flow, counter flow, along with different types of fins which result in very effective heat transfer. They however offer a disadvantage at times in the procedure of servicing them correctly because of the extremely thin plates.

Global Trust Enterprises is an ISO-9001 general trading company in Dubai located in the Jebel Ali Free Zone which caters to the primary product needs of the oil and gas industry along with the petrochemical companies. They supply a large variety of refinery and petrochemical products including heat exchangers to their clients in the Middle East and North Africa region.
